31 May 2010 - A World Competitiveness Yearbook
The ICEG European Center has continued its contribution to the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook – as the Hungarian partner – in 2010 as well. The Yearbook published by the Global Business School IMD based in Switzerland has become a leading annual report on the world’s most competitive economies. The study analyses and ranks a nation’s ability to create and maintain such an environment which sustains the competitiveness of enterprises.

The Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment (VCC) has been pursuing an initiative known as the Emerging Market Global Players (EMGP) Project for the past several years. ICEG European Center as a Hungarian research partner of Columbia University is interested in the contribution to the better understanding of the new phenomenon so called emerging multinationals.

The European Commission DG INFSO has published the „Broadband Coverage in Europe” final report 2009 survey the study is available: which is the output of the project
„Broadband coverage and Take-up EU 27+2”.
According to the study there were 115,1 million fixed broadband subscribers in the EU 27+2 countries at the end of 2008, a rate 12% higher than in the previous year. The broadband penetration rate was 22,8% in terms of subscribers per 100 inhabitants. The most popular technologies were DSL (79,1% of total fixed broadband connections) and cable modem (15,1% of the subscribers base). The remaining proportion (5,8%) was connected via fixed wireless access and FTTx technologies. Another interesting aspect is the download speeds, 62% of DSL connections were available with download speeds over 2 Mbps. The mobile segment is growing significantly and the 3G population coverage reached 79 % until 31th December 2008.

The research institute was founded by dr. Pál Gáspár, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Honorary Lecturer of the Corvinus University of Budapest, in order to establish in Hungary an independent and internationally known and recognised center for the analysis of economic developments taking place in Central and Eastern Europe. The research institute continues its activity by treasuring the memory of its founder.
